Up in the Air #1

In simple words, Religion is basically having faith over the power of gods. These days’ people link religion with superstition in every way, which is totally illogical. There are a few connection of religion with superstition. But that does not mean religion is superstition. Superstition is those irrational beliefs that people have over supernatural powers.

This week I will be putting down some strong however controversial matters which may or may not be considerable to some people. This article is only about me putting down my views on certain matter. So, I request all my viewers to not get offended. I will be presenting you 7 contentious blogs, so stay tuned. The name of this series is ‘Up in the Air’; interesting, isn’t it? The first topic which you’ve already guessed is Religion.

There are quite a lot of questions in my mind regarding Religion. Is religion turning out to be a business? Are religion and superstition the same? What is the relationship between religion and science? These are the three interesting questions I have chosen to discuss on. So let’s get started.

Is Religion a business?

Before just speaking over this topic, I just thought to do some research. I found different views of different people. Some say that people hasn’t yet understood the real meaning of religion, so that’s why it has become a business. While some say, god isn’t there, it is only an organization with profit motive. Difference of opinions was obvious. So now I think I should present my own views on “religion, a business” in the context of Nepal. In my view, Religion is a religion turned business which means Religion back then was only people’s belief over god but now it has really turned into a business. There are some temples in Nepal which takes entry passes or before entering into the temple you should compulsorily buy the offerings. I mean Religion is very simple thing but people yet haven’t understood the actual purpose of Religion. There are people who believe that offerings make gods happy but there are also people who believe in praying from the heart. So, if someone doesn’t believe in offerings, why would he/she mandatorily buy the offerings? Temple should be a free place for every people; both privileged and unprivileged. Entry fee is totally unjustified. Behind this beautiful word RELIGION, there is a huge business racket which runs through the support of religion. Again, this is my opinion and you do not have to get offended. I maybe wrong, or right, I don’t know. The Religion thing is getting worsen day by day. I am not at all opposing religion as I truly belief in the fact that religion can be done by praying from the heart. About this matter I would lastly say that I hope people’s belief changes towards religion. LET’S MAKE RELIGION PURE LIKE BEFORE.

Religion and Superstition

I think the typical knowledge of religion can turn out to be a superstition. So basically your thoughts about religion are the superstitions. We know that god exists and that’s it. Beyond that we know nothing, how you take the concept of religion is totally up to you. Now again in this context, religion is a business gets proved.  Suppose you’re someone who has a typical knowledge about religion. Now from that knowledge you follow the various superstitions to make god happy. Then you develop a mindset to start a religion business. You then start thinking that god is getting very happy with it. So if you take religion with a pure heart then religion won’t be a business. Do you guys agree with me? It is superstition that is leading towards religion is a business. Religions are based on the ethics and promises; while superstitions are based on wrong beliefs. Equating religion with superstition, I think is not appropriate at all. Having faith and being superstitious is totally a different matter. So this is my view regarding religion and superstition.

Religion and Science

There is a lot of confusion going on between Science and Religion. This is a really new topic for me too. I did many research on this topic and found a variety of opinions. From a source I found that scientists don’t really believe on the existence of religion. Religion is a belief which can neither be proved nor disapproved. Religion is beyond world and beyond all senses. Science only believes in something that is tested. And religion can definitely not be tested, so this source claims that there isn’t any relation between Science and Religion. It says that religion and science are a total different perspective; there is no point of conflict between two.  Religion explains itself as a natural phenomenon; however religion can be proved only if it passess the tests of its predictive powers.

Now another source claims that religion and science have deep interconnection. Here, religion is explained as a scientific phenomenon which provides proof of human behavior and morality. Religion have natural histories which are 100% proved. Religion is based on a faith based on reality. Religion explains universe as the way it is while science explains on what, where, how and why. So this source says there are interrelated.

Looks simple right? But it is really a complicated topic. When I just researched about science and religion, 80% of things were beyond my knowledge which I didn’t understand. Some of the things were about Christianity forming science while some were about total disagreement on science and religion.

“Up in the Air” is definitely a viewpoint series so I didn’t came to any conclusion. Religion was a perfect topic for this series. I really enjoyed getting knowledge about religion. Religion seems very simple with 4 major types of religion but it is a vast thing, I realized. I only knew like 5-10% about religion. This is a very complicated topic with no any endings. I hope you liked part 1. Stay tuned for another segment.

Thank you. Have a wonderful day!!
