Is Technology saving us...…or killing us?

Who doesn’t love technology? It has made our lives easier. From online shopping to E-commerce, Technology has a wide range of contributions to our lives. When I was growing up, there was no Wi-Fi, no Google maps, and no online food orders. But I see my life today; Technology has made things a lot easier. Technology today is needed everywhere from professional life to personal life. Technology has improved so much overtime that today, during this pandemic; we take online classes, pay fees online. We are so much dependent on technology.

Technology has helped to connect people from all over the world. We can make online friends or admit to a foreign university through the internet. Wow, I cannot imagine my life without technology these days. I start my day by exercising through YouTube exercise videos and my day ends by Listening to music; you can see how I am so much dependent on Technology. But it’s not only me; I think everyone today cannot imagine their lives without technology. Today we can get access to educational materials through online mediums which makes things more convenient for the students. Just say, I typed “how to learn anything” on Google and it presents millions of results related to it. Technology is such a wonderful thing to talk about.

But, Is Technology killing us? It wouldn’t be wrong to say, yes it is. We all are aware of the addiction to social media within teenagers. I think Technology is not destroying us, and we are using it wrong. If we have had used technology wisely, there won’t be an issue. People nowadays are more into their social media life than in real life. Everyone wants to become a social media influencer, and this I wouldn’t say is technology’s fault: It’s our fault.

When we were young, I didn’t see technology as a big concern. But when I see today’s kids getting addicted to phones and social media, I get worried sometimes. Kids of some months old are getting viral in TikTok, maybe this may not be a big concern, but I really can’t digest when I see toddlers dancing on TikTok.

Tiktok is a great platform to showcase your talents, but is it good to make those kids dance on the camera? It’s their age to learn alphabets, to play games to learn to speak and they are there dancing and acting. Instead of posting anything you want to become viral, one can use TikTok for marketing or showcase their talents. And by talents, I mean EXTRAORDINARY talents.

challenge

You see, the problem is not with the technology, the problem is with us. Instead of scrolling hours on Instagram, we can invest our time in learning something. Technology is a part of us now; it is our decision on how to use it. Instead of sharing people’s private photos through social media, share stories of people who are suffering, and it might be a help.

Technology is never a problem; the problem is the people and their mindset. We are educated and that’s why we know how to use technology. But why aren’t we being responsible?

I don’t know whether my voice will make an impact or not, but let’s hope that we all will make our earth a better place through technology very soon.
