We often say that we live in such a materialistic world. But what does materialistic mean?
So, Materialistic refers to becoming comfortable with wealth and physical possessions rather than spiritual or cultural values. People own physical items that are necessary to achieve their life goals. But these days we are getting obsessed over physical items. Materialism was never a problem if people wouldn’t be so obsessed with it. Materialism is said to be a problem of today’s modern world.
There are no such people who don’t use any of the material objects. We live in a highly materialistic society. Materialism is so much in our souls these days. These facilities attract us and this obsession is going out of hand.
Today when we see ourselves, no matter how much money we have, we feel like something is missing. But again, we live one life, people have their dreams, someone may want to buy a mansion while someone way wants to Upgrade their life in like every month. I paused here; now let me remind you about how lucky we are.
You are aware of people living on the streets right? I guess you might also be fact that those people don’t get to eat food every day, the children don’t get to pursue education. And then, there are you wanting to upgrade your life every month. There is a part of the world that’s a complete mess, a world where dreams aren’t fulfilled. A world, where people have to scrape by to survive.
We don’t know how it feels because we are lucky enough. I got a quality education, I have wings to fly, I can work in any sector I want, I didn’t experience child labor, I didn’t experience poverty, I don’t know about you but I feel I am really lucky.
Why are people so material obsessed?
The main reason I would say is competition. Materialism and competition go hand to hand. Who doesn’t want to look ricer in front of others? I don’t think there is a single person who is materially obsessed because of their nature. It is all because of the competition. Despite that social studies chapter, have you been ever taught to work together in a team? No, right?
We have always been taught to become a doctor, businessman, etc. I don’t know about you but, competitions had started very early in the environment I live in. Competition to become topper, competition to win the race, we are so surrounded by negative competition everywhere.
Who can change this materialistic mindset?
We, definitely we can change this if we want to. Fulfilling your dreams are never a problem, the problem is, competitor mindset, spending on unnecessary things, following the trend. Let’s keep this ego aside and help the country grow.
Who will help helpless people? We can help them; we can invest our money for a good cause rather than following the trend. Our small help for helpless people can make a big impact on our country, the people, and you too will feel much better than you felt while investing money into unnecessary things.
